Are politicians hypocrites?
Many of the politicians who want marijuana to remain legal consume other substances that are far more harmful yet they don’t see them as drugs because they are illegal.
Is Alcohol a More Dangerous Substance than Marijuana
Alcohol is a much more dangerous substance with far higher rates of mortality attached to it yet alcohol is 100 percent legal?
Now, I am not trying to say we should ban alcohol. My point is that adults should have the option of consuming other substances that aren’t as harmful.
Luckily, they do. Many states have recreational marijuana, but the problem is the federal laws are still causing problems and deeming people to be criminals.
Federal Laws Override State Marijuana Laws
Federal laws override state laws because the United States Constitution grants the federal government the power to regulate interstate commerce, and marijuana is still considered a controlled substance under federal law.
This means that even in states where marijuana has been legalized, it is still illegal under federal law and can be subject to federal enforcement.
However, in recent years, the federal government has adopted a policy of non-interference with states that have legalized marijuana, allowing state laws to take precedence.
